Frequently asked questions
Is this connected to TOEIC or an official qualification?
No. Scores and certificates record game results; they do not establish a qualification or language proficiency.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
The exam, results, certificates and guest Survival are free and can be started without signing in. Support is optional; there are no paid answers or score bonuses.
Do I need to know Japanese?
Situations, dialogue and choices are available in Japanese, English and Korean. The exam also lets you expand the Japanese original. The game is about interpreting a scene, not memorizing vocabulary.
Is every expression authentic Kyoto dialect?
No. We include original situations and general Japanese. Cultural sources and meme-inspired fiction are distinguished, and characters do not represent every Kyoto resident. Independent native-speaker review remains future work.
How often can I play Survival?
You can confirm one decision per day in Japan Standard Time. A visit alone does not add a DAY. Failure or a missed day does not erase total days or your best streak.
Why did my friend get a different scene?
Selection considers personal completed days, NPC encounters, recent scenes, season and weekday. A friend challenge shares your separate outcomes rather than making you compete on the same question.
What does Google sign-in save?
It connects your Survival diary to an account so you can recover it on other devices. You can bring over this browser's guest records; if the account already has records, you may be asked to confirm the transfer. The account's record wins when both have a result for the same date. Exam history is not linked. The app database does not store Google email addresses, photos or access tokens.
What happens if I clear cookies?
You may lose the key to a guest diary. Unlinked records do not automatically follow you to another device. For the exam, save your certificate before clearing cookies or starting again.
How do I delete an account or diary?
Use the confirmed account/diary deletion action in the Survival profile. Signing out alone does not delete records. Contact us if you cannot access the record you need help with.
How can I report unclear wording or a translation?
Email neko@kyotoeic.com with the language and situation. Do not send passwords, Google verification codes or secret keys.
