Read between the lines. Keep a diary of your replies.
KYOTOEIC is an independent entertainment project inspired by internet memes about indirect Kyoto speech. Instead of asking you to memorize hidden meanings, it invites you to read the situation and choose a reply that meets the speaker's request.

The original set of 100 questions was replaced by 300 questions focused on reading intentions in context. Earlier questions and submitted results are preserved.
Three versions of the 300-question bank are preserved. Each of the two revisions after the first version updated all 300 questions. The correct answers and difficulty of those questions stayed the same.
These figures count changes between saved versions. They do not count human reviews or indicate that expert review is complete.
The exam draws 30 questions from a bank of 300 and produces a result and certificate. Survival offers one scene a day, with personal DAY progress, relationships and achievements. The records for these modes are separate.
A city is not one personality
Most situations are edited fiction. We distinguish recorded language features, internet memes and a character's actions. This is not a test of how all Kyoto residents speak, or a diagnosis of personality.
Edit the content, preserve the record
Question and translation changes receive new content versions. Answers, difficulty and categories are tracked, and previously assigned scenes and submitted results are not casually overwritten.
Free to play, optional to connect
The exam, certificates and guest Survival do not require a login or donation. Google sign-in is an optional way to recover Survival records across devices. Payments and support have no effect on game scores.
Changes we have actually made
Clearer clues and translations in the public archive
AI reviewed all 40 public scenes in three languages, and we made 76 corrections to wording, including clue quotations and translations. Exam questions, answers and submitted records were preserved.
Three-language dialogue review
We compared and edited situations, dialogue, choices and explanations across 300 exam questions, 365 Survival scenes and 80 calendar editions. Existing attempts and completed records were preserved.
The Alley Notebook and sharing
Collections, NPC relationships, monthly reports and friend challenges use completed scene records. Challenges do not send friends your answers or personal details.
FAQ
Is this connected to TOEIC or an official qualification?
No. Scores and certificates record game results; they do not establish a qualification or language proficiency.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
The exam, results, certificates and guest Survival are free and can be started without signing in. Support is optional; there are no paid answers or score bonuses.
Do I need to know Japanese?
Situations, dialogue and choices are available in Japanese, English and Korean. The exam also lets you expand the Japanese original. The game is about interpreting a scene, not memorizing vocabulary.
